Odoo 20 in Jordan: What's New for JoFotara, AI Agents and Upgrades

Odoo 20, released in September 2026, brings safer JoFotara sending, clearer dinar and foreign-currency handling, and AI agents that run on IAP credits. Here is what changes for Jordanian SMEs and how to upgrade safely.

AI agents that do the work, and how they are billed

Odoo 20 was released in September 2026, with changes across 40 apps and areas. For a Jordanian SME, three stand out: JoFotara sending that checks supplier details first and lets you fix errors in the Send wizard, clearer handling of the dinar next to foreign currencies, and AI agents that do real work. This guide covers what changes, how AI is billed and how to move, starting with the AI.

An Odoo 20 agent can create and update records for you, including from an uploaded instruction file such as a PDF. Picture a distributor in Amman that receives a supplier quotation as a PDF priced in US dollars. Instead of retyping it, the buyer uploads the file, asks the agent to prepare the purchase order, and follows live, step-by-step progress rather than a vague "thinking" message.

  • Automated and scheduled actions can call agents, so an agent can work inside routines you already automate.
  • Agents can now update themselves to fit their use case, and "topics" are now called "skills".
  • Outside AI tools can connect to your database through MCP (Model Context Protocol).
  • Requests can be dictated by voice, and agent chats are stored for up to 30 days after the last message.

On billing: every AI feature now uses credits bought through Odoo's In-App Purchase (IAP) service, sold in packs with pricing set per service. Enterprise users with a valid subscription get free credits to test IAP features, a practical way to measure usage before you set a budget.

Finance: less typing, fewer errors, clearer dinars and dollars

The finance changes cut keystrokes and block the mistakes that take longest to unwind.

  • Bill line prediction: when a vendor bill is entered or imported, Odoo pre-fills product, account, tax, analytic distribution and vehicle from your bill history, and keeps values already typed by hand on existing lines.
  • No double payments: the payment wizard detects pending payments (now labelled Paid), deducts them from the amount due and sorts them by date.
  • Duplicate warnings in red (very likely) and yellow (worth checking): available since 19.0, so new only if you are on 18 or older.
  • Automatic customer invoice reminders, enabled from the Accounting settings.

Two changes matter most in Jordan. First, prices can be switched between tax-included and tax-excluded on sales orders, purchase orders and invoices, and individual taxes can be set to override the choice. A shop that shows shelf prices with the 16% general sales tax inside and a wholesaler quoting trade customers net of tax can each keep pricing the way they already do. Second, multi-currency is easier to read: converted totals show the date of the exchange rate used, the rate is displayed when you register a payment in dollars or euros, and exchange gains and losses become one expandable line per invoice.

What your accountant will need to do differently:

  • Every journal entry that touches a bank account must come from a bank transaction.
  • Parent accounts replace account groups, and account codes become optional.
  • Payment statuses are renamed: "In Process" becomes "Paid", and "Paid" becomes "Reconciled".

Selling, stock and the shop counter

Sales gets a dashboard above the quotations and orders lists. Order lines can be description-only, handy for a contractor quoting one-off work, unless the new Mandatory Product setting enforces products. Edit the margin on a line to recompute the price, set pricelist rules for specific periods or weekdays (a Ramadan offer, say), and save any quotation as a template.

Inventory suggests minimum and maximum levels for reordering rules from demand history, desired days of coverage and order frequency. It adds a stock aging report, inventory at a past date for year-end checks, and landed costs per product, so clearing and freight charges through Aqaba land on the items that caused them. Returns are simpler, without the old wizard. Small sellers can ship sales orders, and run eCommerce or POS on simplified stock (one on-hand quantity per product, no transfers), without installing Inventory.

At the counter:

  • Several currencies at checkout in the same POS, useful for shops in Aqaba or Wadi Musa where visitors pay in dollars.
  • Multiple printers per POS, service fees for restaurants and cafés, snoozed products, an alert on expired items, and a simplified receipt.
  • One global sale per session, with payment entries created at a set time without closing the session.

JoFotara-compliant POS receipts have existed since 18.0; Odoo 20 adds several submission scenarios for receipts and invoices.

Staff on the road can create, edit and delete records offline and re-run earlier searches, and share a supplier bill or expense receipt from their phone straight into Odoo.

People: time off, attendance and payroll

Time off can be counted in calendar days or working days, so Odoo follows the way your policy counts leave. Public holidays can be loaded for the whole year, with those of the company's country, Jordan here, suggested automatically. In Attendances, a check-in device with a camera can take a photo of the employee, eSSL and Mantra biometric devices can send attendance straight into Odoo, and a new overtime analysis report shows which rule applied to each overtime record.

In Payroll, a net-to-gross simulation helps when a candidate negotiates a take-home salary in dinars. Pay runs follow a clear step-by-step flow, and you choose whether payslips go out on confirmation, on payment or manually. Expense limits can be set per job position, so a sales rep's fuel claims and a manager's client lunches follow different caps.

Jordan payroll is not new in Odoo 20, but it is there: the Jordanian localization covers progressive income tax, social security, housing and transport allowances, and end-of-service eligibility. Before upgrading, note that work entries have been removed from Payroll and work entry types merged with time off types, so review any salary rules built on them.

Service firms with technicians should know that the Field Service app has been discontinued. Its live map, routing, travel fees and worksheets now live in Planning, and worksheet templates use property fields instead of Studio fields.

JoFotara in Odoo 20 for Jordan, and how to upgrade safely

What Odoo 20 changes for JoFotara, the national e-invoicing system of the Income and Sales Tax Department:

  • Before sending, Odoo checks the supplier's country and tax number (TIN).
  • Errors are handled in the Send wizard, and JoFotara fields are grouped under Other Info on the invoice.
  • Several submission scenarios are supported for invoices and POS receipts.

Not new, but useful on older versions: improved credit-note line matching and the Transit, Foreign Trade and Free Zone Transfer invoice types are available from 17.0, and compliant POS receipts from 18.0.

Upgrade checklist:

  • Odoo 17 left standard support in September 2026; 18.0 follows in September 2027 and 19.0 in September 2028. Odoo 20's standard support is planned until September 2029.
  • On Enterprise, the upgrade is free for standard apps, Studio customisations (while Studio is installed and subscribed) and code under a maintenance-of-customisations subscription. Custom or third-party modules, data cleanup and training are not covered.
  • Test on an upgraded copy first. It runs neutralised: scheduled actions, outgoing mail and bank sync off, payment providers and carriers in test mode. Custom modules must be ported before the upgrade can run.
  • On Odoo Online, a completed production upgrade cannot be reverted.
  • Using fiscal positions for export or free-zone customers? Default taxes outside the invoice's fiscal position are now removed, even with no replacement.

Frequently asked questions

Is upgrading to Odoo 20 free?

On Odoo Enterprise, yes for the database upgrade itself: standard apps, Studio customisations (while Studio is installed and subscribed) and code under a maintenance-of-customisations subscription are covered. In-house and third-party modules, including those built by Odoo partners, plus data cleanup and training, are not. Always upgrade and test a copy before production.

Do Odoo 20's AI agents cost extra?

Yes. All AI features in Odoo 20 consume credits bought through Odoo's IAP service, sold in packs with pricing set per service in the IAP catalogue. Enterprise users with a valid subscription get free credits to test IAP features, so you can see how much your team actually uses before budgeting.

I'm on Odoo 17. Do I need to upgrade now?

Standard support for Odoo 17 ended in September 2026. Extended support costs extra and is only offered on Odoo.sh (for some versions) and on-premise. On Odoo Online, upgrading to a new major version is mandatory every two years. Because you can upgrade to any version still under standard support, you can go straight to 20 rather than stopping at 18 or 19.
