CliQ Jordan business payments: receiving by alias and what payers see

CliQ Jordan business payments let your company receive customer money instantly into its bank account through an alias, a mobile number or an email address, 24/7, in Jordanian dinars and within Jordan only. The Jordan Payments and Clearing Company (JoPACC) owns and runs the system, launched in June 2020. Per JoPACC's CliQ FAQs, every bank in Jordan except Al Rafidain Bank takes part as of October 2026, and mobile wallet users can pay too.

Setup starts in your bank's business app or corporate portal: Arab Bank offers CliQ for companies in its Arabi Next app, and Islamic International Arab Bank on its corporate platform. Customers can pay your IBAN by CliQ even before you register an alias, if your bank is connected. Three rules apply:

  • Pick a name you own: Arab Jordan Investment Bank and Islamic International Arab Bank forbid aliases using another party's trademark or trade name, and may cancel them.
  • Receive into a business account: Arab Jordan Investment Bank's terms bar non-business accounts from commercial transactions.
  • One account can hold several aliases, and one alias can cover several accounts, with one set as the default for incoming money.

Before confirming, the payer's app shows your full name as held in your bank's records, which you consent to at registration. It may differ from your shop sign, so tell customers. Payers can also request a credit confirmation.

Description fields vary by bank app: Arab Bank's Reflect app asks for an amount and a description, while Arab Jordan Investment Bank's published steps show only a payment-purpose list. Check that your statement shows the payer's note, and ask for the invoice number:

  • With the invoice: Hello [name], invoice [invoice number] for [amount] JOD is attached. Pay by CliQ to [alias]; the payee name shown will be [company name as held by the bank]. Please type the invoice number in the description.
  • Reminder: Invoice [invoice number] for [amount] JOD is due on [date]. Pay by CliQ to [alias], with the invoice number in the description.
  • No reference: Thanks for today's CliQ payment of [amount] JOD from [sender name]. Which invoice is it for?
  • Before a request to pay: A CliQ request from [company name as held by the bank] for [amount] JOD, invoice [invoice number], is coming. Reject anything that does not match; we never ask for your verification code.

CliQ limits and business fees in 2026: a worked example and a comparison

CliQ transfer limits are simple: JOD 10,000 is the most a single transfer can carry, and each bank may set a lower ceiling or a daily limit, so ask what applies to your company account. Individual accounts pay no fees at Jordan Ahli Bank, whose tariff we checked, but business accounts now pay a flat fee on CliQ transfers they send or receive, set by each bank. Ahli charges by value band; here is what the receiving company pays there, as checked in October 2026:

  • JOD 75 transfer: JOD 0.300.
  • JOD 300 transfer: JOD 0.500.
  • JOD 750 transfer: JOD 0.500.
  • JOD 9,000 transfer: JOD 5.
  • Transfers between business accounts held at Ahli are exempt, and CliQ salary payments have a separate tariff. Other banks publish their own bands, so the same transfer can cost a different amount elsewhere.

A worked example: a distributor collecting 40 invoices of JOD 300 a month through its alias pays 40 × 0.500 = JOD 20 in receiving fees. By local card, within the limits the Central Bank of Jordan set on 19 January 2026, the merchant discount rate runs from 0.70% to 1.50% depending on sector and contract, or JOD 84 to JOD 180.

A quick comparison by type of business:

  • Grocery or restaurant with walk-in customers: CliQ QR on the point-of-sale terminal, or cards. As of October 2026, the Central Bank's April 2023 circular caps fees on CliQ terminal payments at 1.25% for small grocery and food shops and 1.50% for restaurants and supermarkets, and you may not surcharge the customer either way.
  • Distributor, contractor or services firm with credit invoices: a CliQ transfer quoting the invoice number, for a small flat fee. Amounts above JOD 10,000 need a regular bank transfer.
  • School, club or subscription business with many recurring bills: eFAWATEERcom. You join as a biller, your bill is presented in customers' banking apps, at ATMs and in wallets, and paying a non-government bill carries a fee of JOD 0.20 to JOD 5, depending on the biller, service and channel.
  • Online store that delivers: cards through a payment gateway, CliQ with the order number, or cash on delivery, which carries no card or CliQ fee but leaves cash with the courier until handed over.

CliQ QR, request to pay and returns, plus fraud rules for your team

Besides the plain transfer, CliQ offers businesses three tools: QR payments at the point of sale, a request to pay that you send to your customer, and return payments, which send back all or part of a payment you received without starting a new transfer. Availability varies by bank.

  • QR payments: the Central Bank of Jordan required point-of-sale acquirers to connect to CliQ and enable QR payments by 31 January 2024. The terminal generates the code, the customer scans it in their banking app, and the merchant is settled immediately. Businesses cannot join CliQ directly, so you get this through your merchant acquirer.
  • Request to pay: you send a request for the invoice amount, and the customer accepts or rejects it in their app; if accepted, the money moves at once. It suits agreed amounts, since the customer does not type the figure.
  • Return payments: a Central Bank circular of 2 November 2025 told banks and payment companies to offer this clearly in their digital channels by the end of December 2025, and to show a return on the statement as linked to the original transfer. Banks may set a window; Arab Jordan Investment Bank allows 6 days.

Use returns for duplicate, excess or misdirected payments. For returned goods, start with a credit note in Odoo, as the next section explains.

Agree these rules with your team:

  • Never release goods against a screenshot; check the money is in the company account itself.
  • The sender carries full responsibility for a transfer, says JoPACC. If your customer pays someone else by mistake, neither the recipient nor the bank must return it, and the sender's bank can only try to recover it amicably. Keep repeating the name customers should see.
  • If an unexpected payment lands, send it back with the return function, never with a new transfer to a number someone gives you. The Central Bank warns of the legal risk of keeping misdirected transfers and their links to fraud and money laundering.
  • Nobody shares a verification code (OTP), and outgoing transfers need a second approval through user permissions on your corporate banking platform, where your bank offers this.

The circulars are on the Central Bank of Jordan's payment systems legislation page.

Reconciling CliQ receipts in Odoo 20: imports, invoice-number matching and JoFotara

In Odoo 20 you reconcile CliQ receipts from your bank statement: import the transactions, and Odoo looks for the invoice number in each transaction's label and matches it automatically. Bank reconciliation is part of Odoo Enterprise Accounting.

Does Odoo connect to your Jordanian bank directly? Usually not. When we checked Odoo's list of supported institutions on 26 October 2026, the only Jordanian entries were Citibank N.A. - Business and Standard Chartered - Business. For other banks, import statements in a format listed in Odoo 20's documentation on bank transactions: CAMT.053, CSV, XLSX, OFX or QIF, plus Belgium's CODA. For CSV and XLSX, map the bank's description column to the Label field.

When no partner is set on a transaction, Odoo compares its label with the Number, Customer Reference and Payment Reference of open invoices; when a partner is set, it matches on amount. Four settings raise the match rate:

  • Payment reference: on the Customer Invoices journal, the Communication Type defaults to Based on Invoice and the Communication Standard to the full reference, such as INV/2026/00001, printed on the invoice as the Payment Communication. If customers type on phones, try the Numbers only standard.
  • A fee model: the built-in Bank Fees model only applies to labels containing “Bank Fees”, so create an automated reconciliation model whose label contains your bank's fee wording, with a bank charges account as counterpart.
  • Partner mapping: a model with a label condition that sets the right customer, such as a company paying from an account under another name.
  • Matching rules: a tolerance in amount or percentage lets a payment slightly short of the invoice still match.

JoFotara completes the picture. Odoo sends the same invoice number to the national e-invoicing system, swapping slashes for underscores, so INV/2026/00123 becomes INV_2026_00123. So the invoice number your customer types in the CliQ description ties the transfer to the invoice in Odoo and to its copy in JoFotara. For returned goods, issue a credit note that goes to JoFotara linked to the original invoice, then refund and match the outgoing transaction to it. More in our guide to JoFotara e-invoicing. At the till, create a separate CliQ payment method on your bank journal; our Odoo retail guide for Jordan covers the rest of POS setup.

A 10-minute daily CliQ reconciliation routine, and how METCH helps

Ten minutes each morning are enough to reconcile yesterday's CliQ receipts, if you repeat the same steps in the same order every day. This routine assumes you import the bank statement by hand; keep it as your accountant's checklist:

  • Minute 1: download yesterday's transactions from your corporate banking platform as CSV or XLSX, or CAMT.053 if your bank offers it.
  • Minute 2: drag and drop the file onto the bank journal on the Accounting dashboard, or choose Import file from the journal's menu.
  • Minutes 3 to 5: open the unreconciled transactions, review what Odoo matched, then the lines that carry an invoice number but did not match.
  • Minutes 6 and 7: for lines with no number, set the customer, pick their open invoice by amount, and send the no-reference message from the first section.
  • Minute 8: post CliQ fees with your reconciliation model, and match any return to its original transfer or credit note.
  • Minute 9: compare the bank journal balance in Odoo with the bank's closing balance for the same day.
  • Minute 10: add a partner-mapping model for any repeat payer Odoo did not recognize, and note what is still open.

Manual work shrinks over time, because each model you add matches tomorrow's lines by itself. By month-end the bank journal is clean, and closing becomes a review, not a hunt. These daily matches also lay the groundwork for our year-end closing checklist for Jordan.

One small step this week: download a month of statements and count the incoming transfers with no invoice number. That figure shows where your team's time goes.

At METCH, an official Odoo partner serving Jordan, we set this flow up on your database: a bank journal for each account that receives CliQ, an import template for your bank's statement, a clear payment reference on the invoices you send to JoFotara, reconciliation models for fees and repeat payers, and a CliQ payment method at the till, then we train your team on the routine. Start with our short Odoo questionnaire so we understand your accounts and how you collect.

Frequently asked questions

Do businesses pay fees to receive CliQ payments?

Yes, at the banks whose terms we checked. Business accounts now pay a flat fee on CliQ transfers they send and receive, set by each bank. At Jordan Ahli Bank, for example, receiving a transfer between JOD 100 and JOD 500 costs JOD 0.500, while individual accounts pay nothing. Check your own bank's tariff before you decide which payment methods to offer customers.

What are the CliQ transfer limits for businesses?

The maximum for a single transfer is JOD 10,000, according to JoPACC, and each bank may set a lower ceiling or a daily limit per customer. Ask your bank what applies to your company account and to your payers, and if your invoices exceed JOD 10,000, agree on a regular bank transfer with customers instead of splitting the payment.

Can a customer cancel a CliQ payment after sending it?

No. The transfer is instant and the sender is fully responsible for it. What you can do is send back all or part of the amount with the return payments service, which the Central Bank told banks to offer in their digital channels. If the money went to someone else by mistake, the recipient is not obliged to return it and the sender's bank can only try to recover it amicably. For returned goods, start with a credit note in Odoo that goes to JoFotara.

Does Odoo 20 connect to my company's account at a Jordanian bank automatically?

Usually not. When we checked on 26 October 2026, Odoo's list of supported institutions for Jordan included only Citibank N.A. - Business and Standard Chartered - Business. For other banks, download the statement from your corporate platform and import it into the bank journal as CSV, XLSX, CAMT.053, OFX or QIF, and Odoo then matches transactions by invoice number. Bank synchronization requires an Odoo Enterprise subscription.
